Winter Break Travel Tips for Students Leaving Canada
If you’re heading out for winter break, take a few minutes to get your unit ready before you go. It makes coming back way easier and helps avoid any surprises.
- Clear out your fridge: Anything that can spoil, toss it or take it with you. Trust us, nothing is worse than returning to mystery smells after a long trip! 🙈
- Take out all the trash: Empty every bin, including bathroom and bedroom ones. Even small scraps can attract pests while you’re away.
- Unplug non-essential electronics: Chargers, kettles, lamps, consoles — unplug them to save energy and reduce risk.
- Close all windows and balcony doors: Fully latch everything to keep out cold air, snow, and moisture.
- Set your thermostat properly: Keep it at a safe level. Do not turn the heat off completely.
- Store food securely: Dry goods should be sealed or in containers so nothing gets into them while you’re away.
- Make sure your laundry is fully dry: Damp clothes left sitting for weeks can develop mould quickly.
- Do a quick final walk-through: Lights off, stove off, taps off, heat set, windows locked. Then you’re good to go.
Have a great break, travel safe, and enjoy the time away. We’ll see you back in the new year.
